WP 1 Project Management & Coordination
  • Deliverable 1.1.1 Προετοιμασία Δραστηριοτήτων - Preparation Activities:

The project has been thoroughly examined and designed for its implementation.  Specific activities have been assigned to the partners.

  • Deliverable 1.1.2 Διαχείρηση Έργου και Συντονισμός-Project Management & Coordination:

The management of the project and its coordination has been examined and significance progress has been illustrated.  All the participants are effectively implementing the deliverables of the project “Growing Social” according to plan.

During October 2019, a general meeting was held in the premises of Technopolis Thessaloniki.  All participants of the project were present.  The JTS Project Officer Mrs. Styla Kyriaki, showed to all the participants the status of the project.

WP 2 Communication & Dissemination

Our communication plan presents a comprehensive strategy with a common graphic identity, specific tools and activities adapted to the respective target groups. Some activities within the scope of this communication plan have already started. It is expected to be one of the incoming data to form the project’s evaluation report at the end of the project.

The Municipality of Pilea - Hortiatis has established the Local Office for Support of Social Entrepreneurship with the support of the European program INTERREG V-A Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020 in order to assist all citizens in accessing valuable information in tackling unemployment, finding social support or even how to draw a business plan towards implementing a business idea.

In its effort to raise public awareness, the Municpality of Pylaia – Hortiatis has been engaged in advertising its new program through radio broadcasts, newspaper articles, e-banners and leaflets.

In the interactive workshops for students, the overall objective of the project was to promote social entrepreneurship as a local developmental model (decentralization), instead of considering it just a delegation and extension of the state social delegation policy. According to the programme, the capacity of employment and social inclusion through social entrepreneurship could be strengthen by support schemes and through the dissemination of good practice at local level.

WP 3 Title Support Mechanisms for Social Entrepreneurship

The Municipality of Pylaia – Hortiatis has been using a Master Plan for the Operation of the Local Office for SE in the framework of “Enhancement of social entrepreneurship through the establishment of support structures in the CB area” with the acronym “Growing Social” INTERREG V-A COOPERATION PROGRAMME GREECE – BULGARIA 2014 – 2020

In the framework of the Growing Social project, this deliverable entailed a training seminar of the employees for the local office that took place on December 2018.  At this seminar organized by the Municipality of Pylea - Hortiatis, very important speakers from the circles of Social and Solidarity Economy in Greece shared their experiences and underlined the crucial aspects of time and the significance of networking in finding new opportunities.  

On January 31st, 2019 an Open Day titled “Success Stories” took place at Thessaloniki. The Success Stories Day, in the field of social entrepreneurship, was organized by the Municipality of Pilea - Hortiatis (LB). The Success Stories Day was an awareness raising event regarding Social Entrepreneurship, open to the public, and aiming in gathering people’s interest on the fact that Social Entrepreneurship is feasible. The audience was presented by successful examples from Spain, Romania and Greece.

The objective of this deliverable was the evaluation of a business plan.  The Municipality of Pylaia- Hortiatis held an open invitation to all interested parties in submitting their business plans within 18 days to the Local Office for the Support of Social Entrepreneurship.   This became known to the public by posting it on the site of the Municipality and communicated with the use of social networking tools.  The ones who received excellent scores will be hosted in the Technopolis incubator.


WP 4 Title Promotion of Social Entrepreneurship in CB area

This deliverable is complying with the overall project’s objective, highlights the basic information needed in order to inform possible entrepreneurs on basic steps to form a Social Enterprise in the CB area of Greece. It  shows the necessity to implement a set of tools and guidelines to obtain the necessary information to fill in the gap in funding the Social Enterprises with alternative ways such as crowd-funding. In an effort to boost up their self-esteem in starting up a new venture, and to find other ways to overcome possible obstacles, this deliverable will assist Social Enterprising to succeed as an emerging new branch of the Economy.


WP 5 Title Evaluation on Social Entrepreneurship

The current study was conducted in an effort to evaluate the Growing Social project through the distribution of three questionnaires addressed to separate target groups.  By obtaining the data, measurements were taken concerning the level of service received from the Social Entrepreneurship offices in both countries Greece and Bulgaria.  It also showed the level of educational seminars and the degree of the satisfaction with the training seminars, the services rendered or if they encountered any difficulties during the implementation of the project.

Project management is undertaken by the partners, and they have been complying according to plan.

WP 2 Communication & Dissemination

Publication of 5 articles in local and national press, the production of a 30’’ Radio spot and radio campaigns of 150 transmissions , the creation and delivery of e-banners on relevant websites , the creation of 15 minutes’ informative video for the project with short interviews in Greek with English subtitles, organizing 5 interactive workshops in high schools in the Municipality of Pilea Hortiatis, operation of a local office and evaluation of business plans are only a few of the directions taken in implementing the Growing Social project.

The Project of Growing Social is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and by national funds of the countries participating in the Interreg V-A “Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020” Cooperation Programme. Its objectives are firstly tο promote social entrepreneurship as a local developmental model (decentralization), instead of considering it just a delegation and extension of the state social delegation policy.  Secondly, tο establish support mechanisms for interested parties and new social entrepreneursin the CB area.  Thirdly, to provide the opportunity to young unemployed people to enter the labour market and simultaneously have a positive social impact with their work and finally to disseminate good practices about Social Entrepreneurship in the cross border area.

Various meetings and conferences were organized in respect to establish and support the incubator for start-ups social enterprises.

The online interactive helpdesk has been very pioneering in assisting and supporting all aspects of the incubator.


WP 4 Title Promotion of Social Entrepreneurship in CB area

“Investigation of existing funding mechanisms and financing tools for Social Enterprises” fully covers the demand of presenting necessary tools of funding for the emerging branch of Social Entrepreneurship surrounded by the necessary information in order to apply such a venture.  A simple idea will be given the opportunity to become a growing venture by minimizing the risk of its failure. Social Enterprising is an emerging branch of the Economy and is possible to dominate if rules and guidelines are followed thus making SEs viable and successful enterprises.

On May 2019, Technopolis Thessaloniki hosted a conference with title “Enhancement of social entrepreneurship through the establishment of support structures in the CB area” where all participants examined thoroughly the necessary procedures to be followed in order to establish a Social Enterprise, the role of networking, the connection of incubators with the interested parties, all the support and consulting services to be rendered, in addition to the marketing tools that can be used for SEs.

Presentation with valuable information about start-ups, learn how to become from a true visionary to a great entrepreneur, what myths are true, how to be inspired and prevail although the odds are against you, and find ways to fund your enterprise in becoming successful. 

Educational Workshop for the future Social Entrepreneurs introducing issues of a Start-Up, the Digital and Social Media Marketing in the new era, the Mindset of Doing Well by Doing Good, followed by a small presentation of the project of GROWING SOCIAL. Other issues presented in this workshop were Business Innovation, Business Model Development and Canvas, Enterprising Health and Sample planning. 

WP 5 Evaluation on Social Entrepreneurship

The contribution of social economy sector is very important.  The Social Enterprises are alike the conventional enterprises with the only difference that their main characteristic is the social company purpose.  The European Union has established in 2011 the Social Business Initiative with its main purpose to contribute in the creation of a favorable environment for Social Enterprises to grow in Europe and in the general Social Economy.

WP 1 Project Management & Coordination
  • Deliverable 1.4.1 Preparation Activities: 

The project has been thoroughly examined and designed for its implementation.  Specific activities have been assigned to the partner in Rudozem and upon completion the results will be evaluated.

  • Deliverable 1.4.2 Project management:  

The project management was thorougly coordinated in respect to its illustration and if necessary, steps were made to adjust towards its completion.  The partner has been effectively implementing the deliverables of the project “Growing Social”.

  • Deliverable 1.4.3 Project meetings: 

The preparation of the semiannual activities and financial reports during the project’s lifetime and the preparation of procurement documents were presented.  Great emphasis was given to the cooperation of partnership in coordinating all PB4’s actions.  All efforts were made to provide the Lead Partner with the appropriate information so all progress reports can be submitted on time.  The project meetings were held in Thessaloniki, Greece.  The need to organize one project meeting in Rudozem, Bulgaria was suggested. 


WP 2 Communication & Dissemination:
  • Deliverable 2.4.1 Contribution of inputs in the Communication Plan

The contribution of inputs in the Communication plan in addition to the organization of one intermediate conference in Bulgaria was the primary aspect to be evaluated. 

The elaboration of printed information materials such as leaflets in languages BG/EN, various posters in BG/GR/EN and banners in BG/EN were very valuable in contributing to communicating the project across the society.  The publication in local newspapers was another way to effectively communicate the project.

  • Deliverable 2.4.3 Public Conference

On April 2019, at Rubis Hotel at Rudozem a public conference was organized by the Rudozem Municipality with the main theme “Social entrepreneurship as an opportunity for local development in the Bulgarian-Greek cross border region” to raise awareness about the program Growing Social and present all of its aspects. The operation of the Local Office for Social Enterprises is part of the project of Growing Social in order to inform possible entrepreneurs on basic steps to form a Social Enterprise in the CB area of Bulgaria. Its implementation is necessary in order to assist the SEs by given the right tools and guidence to gain in sustainability.

The elaboration of a guide for SE opportunities in BG and new social entrepreneurs which will include information on legal framework in Bulgaria, guidance for development of business plan, and templates of a business plan were presented in assisting in the growth of Social Enterprises as a tool for economic prosperity.

The establishment of experts groups were made for generating valuable input for seminars by organizing a round table with educational institutes.

WP 4 Title Promotion of Social Entrepreneurship in CB area

A complete handbook for good practices about the establishment of the Social Regional Business was given.  The success is certain if rules and regulations are followed.  An idea can implemented and become a successful Social Enterprise.   

The concept of entrepreneurship in social change, especially in the third sector, is not new. The third sector of the economy has long ago proved its dynamics in using their entrepreneurial spirit to solve social issues.

  • Deliverable 5.5.1 Study on the contribution of social economy sector in meeting social cohesion in Bulgaria (Zlatogerad Assement):

Social Entrepreneurship Initiative has created a favorable environment for promoting social enterprise that have been the key players in the economy and social innovation.  The  communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, the Council, the Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions have all been useful in the accomplishment of this project.
